2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Volkswagen Jetta
The Volkswagen Jetta has historically bridged a gap between salt-of-the-earth compact cars and Germany's entry-level luxury sedans. In the past, people who bought a Jetta were just as likely to have also considered a BMW 3 Series or a Honda Accord. There was a premium quality to the Jetta that its buyers recognized as worth the extra cost of admission. Even so, Volkswagen believes this price premium also kept more people from considering its compact sedan in the first place, so the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta represents a dramatic shift in philosophy.
For the first time in the car's 30-year history, the 2011 Jetta is not the sedan version of the 2011 VW Golf. On the positive side, the new Jetta has a longer wheelbase for more rear seat room. But we're not fond of the revised steering, standard rear drum brakes and the base model's 2.0-liter engine. Additionally, the Jetta's interior no longer boasts the upscale materials and thoughtful little details that used to give it a premium feel.
So why all these changes, when in most ways they make the Jetta less desirable? The answer is price. The new base model Jetta S costs less than $15,000, and VW points out that it's actually $1,700 cheaper than a 2000 Jetta when you consider inflation. At the same time, the Jetta also boasts more standard features for the money than a Honda Civic. Add this to its big-car interior and you have a super-sized Jetta for American consumers who expect the kind of value you get at Costco.
Simply taken as it is, the 2011 VW Jetta is a solid choice for a small or midsize sedan. With its spacious interior, plenty of standard features and exclusive offering of a fuel-efficient clean-diesel engine, the new Jetta holds its own against other top choices like the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte and Mazda 3. But for every customer who will notice the Jetta's smaller price and bigger size, we think there will be just as many previous VW customers put off by the new car's obvious cost-cutting.
 INTERIOR
We've heaped considerable praise on VW interiors in the past because they generally offer exceptional materials and thoughtful details that surpass some so-called luxury cars. Unfortunately, much of that is gone in the 2011 Jetta sedan.
Take the dashboard: The previous Jetta's dash was finished in an upscale soft-touch material with nice graining. While the new sedan's dash retains the eye-pleasing graining, it's now made of a hard plastic that sounds hollow if you rap on it with your knuckles. This is less of an issue for me than it is for some people, as I don't spend much of my time in a car touching the dashboard. (And if you do, I suggest you seek professional help.) What's more problematic is that the upper part of the door trim where you actually might want to rest your arm is made of hard, uncomfortable plastic, too.
The prior Jetta also had a wonderful front center armrest that you could slide forward and backward and set at various heights. The armrest isn't adjustable any more, but rather just opens to reveal the storage bin beneath it. It's also set at an odd, downward-sloping angle that isn't very comfortable. Furthermore, the controls for the manual air-conditioning system have a sloppy, unrefined feel, and overall interior fit-and-finish doesn't seem as good as the old model's.
I understand that in an effort to make the Jetta more affordable, something had to give, but the problem is that these issues are present in the relatively upscale SEL trim, not just the low-priced base model.
Because the previous Jetta's interior quality was at such a high level compared with its mainstream competitors, the new sedan's less-refined interior is now just competent, as opposed to class-leading. There's no question the cabin represents a step backward on this front, and while it might not bother shoppers coming from a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla, current Volkswagen customers will notice the changes right away and they probably won't be pleased.
The Jetta's front bucket seats are supportive, and it was easy to find a comfortable driving position. All models have manually adjustable seats, and it's nice to see that Volkswagen replaced the knob for reclining the backrest with a lever, though the lever is in an awkward spot on the side of the seat.
The sport seats that are part of the 2.5 SEL's optional Sport Package have more aggressive side bolsters to hold you when cornering, but the seats are wide, so they're not overly restrictive. Cloth upholstery is standard, but the seats in the cars I tested had Volkswagen's V-Tex simulated leather, which looks and feels quite a bit like the real thing.
Backseat space is where the Jetta has a clear edge over its competitors. When sitting in the back of models like the Civic, Corolla and Nissan Sentra, my knees generally touch or press into the back of the front seat. I'm 6-foot-1, and in the Jetta I had an inch or two of space between my knees and the front seat when it was positioned for me to drive. In combination with its large 15.5-cubic-foot trunk, the Jetta is roomy enough to comfortably carry four adults and their things.
EXTERIOR
Completely redesigned, the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is 3 inches longer than the previous-generation models, with a wider track.
The 2011 Jetta is considerably more shapely than before with curves that are subtle and sweet. The shape stands out in white, and appears most elegant in that color, prettier than the black and silver SELs that we tested. There are body-colored door handles and there's little chrome trim, going against today's grain, sticking to the traditional notion that clean is beautiful. It is, and it shines on the new Jetta. Even the new grille is anti-chrome, with black horizontal bars that look good in basic black, as well as a tray-shaped front spoiler under the front bumper that suggests the splitter on a racing car. It's an upscale improvement over the previous Jetta's bigger mouth.
Nowhere is the new Jetta overstyled or oversculpted; VW has it over BMW in that area. The lines are expanded and more graceful, while still being totally Jetta. They are crisp and precise, with strong wheelwells, smooth roofline and attractive C pillar. The new nose and shoulders, viewed from the side of the car looking forward, give the front end an attractive Infiniti-like roundness.
At the rear, there's a neat aerodynamic lip at the trailing edge of the remote-opening trunk, and powerful taillights.
ENGINE
The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta S ($15,995) comes with the 115-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Standard Jetta features include cloth upholstery, four-speaker audio, heated mirrors, halogen headlamps, 60/40 split folding rear seat.
A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all models, a 6-speed automatic is optional ($1100). All New Car Test Drive prices are Manufacturers Suggested Retail Prices, which do not include the destination charge and may change at any time without notice.
Jetta SE ($18,195) upgrades to the 170-hp 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. Jetta SE trim also adds V-Tex leatherette upholstery, cruise control, 16-inch wheels, interior storage and lighting, pass-through to the trunk. The Jetta SE with Convenience package ($19,545) upgrades to leather trim, heated seats, six-speaker audio with MDI media device interface with iPod, Sirius and Bluetooth, steering-wheel controls, alloy wheels.
Jetta SEL ($21,395) adds navigation, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, chrome trim, fog lamps, keyless entry, and lumbar adjustment for driver.
Jetta SEL Sport ($22,995) features a firmer suspension, sport seats, aluminum pedals, and sunroof.
Jetta TDI ($22,995) uses the turbocharged diesel engine. The TDI Navigation ($24,195) adds navigation, keyless access, foglamps, chrome trim and rear disc brakes.
Safety features on all Jetta models includes six airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Stability Control, and the mandated tire monitor.
SAFETY
The 2011 VW Jetta comes standard with traction and stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. All Jettas have antilock brakes with brake assist; however, the S and SE have rear drums. The SEL and TDI get rear discs. In Edmunds brake testing of an SEL, the Jetta came to a stop from 60 mph in a better-than-average 117 feet.

History of Plymouth Cars 1920-1929

Plymouth Picture then become the Brand of Plymouth Cars

The Plymouth automobile was introduced first time on July 7, 1928. Former, It was Chrysler's first entry in the field of low price, which was then dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. At that time, plymouths were priced a little higher than the competition, but they offered quality standard features such as internal expanding hydraulic brakes which not provided by the competition. Plymouths were originally sold through only Chrysler dealerships. The logo presented a rear view of the ship Mayflower, which landed at Plymouth Rock. However, the brand name came from Plymouth Binder Twine, chosen by Joe Frazer to its popularity among farmers.

The origins of the first Plymouth can be traced back to the Maxwell automobile. When Walter P. Chrysler took over the company's problems mounted drive from Maxwell-Chalmers in the early 1920s, he inherited the Maxwell as part of the package. Then he used the company's facilities to help create and launch the Chrysler car in 1924, he decided to create a car companion lowest price. So for 1926 the Maxwell was reworked and re-badged as the low-end "52" Chrysler model. In 1928, the "52" was once again redesigned to create the model Chrysler-Plymouth Q. The "Chrysler" part of the plate was abandoned with the introduction of the model U Plymouth in 1929.

First Muscle Car of Original Plymouth Barracuda

Plymouth Barracuda 1964-1974 Book Cover-Amazon

The First Muscle Car of original Plymouth Barracuda was built on the chassis body, which was also common to several other popular vehicles manufactured by Dodge Dart, including the Chrysler. It was directly spun off from existing Valiant series to appeal for a sportier market, and is also considered the pony car in the first place, because before the Ford Mustang came to market by two weeks.

Plymouth Barracuda Picture

In 1967, the Barracuda car's body remained an A, but has been completely redesigned. To complement the fastback model, the vehicle now offered notchback and convertible options, replacing the 1966 versions. This second generation Barracuda would last three years, from 1967 to 1969. An interesting way to visually tell the difference in all three years were the side marker lights: the 1967 Barracuda HAD-side marker lights at all, the 1968 model had small circular ones and the 1969 model much larger rectangular HAD.

1970 Plymouth Cuda Yellow-Open Engine

In 1970, another reform was for the Barracuda. This new design looked a little different than previous models. One reason is that now was built on a new version, slightly shorter and more joyful Chrysler B-body platform in place, the E-body.

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Orange-Front Angle

The New Baracuda eliminated the fastback, but kept the two-door coupe and convertible versions. He also had a twin brother known as the Dodge Challenger, not however, an exterior body panel exchanged between two cars. They were bulky, but aggressively and a clean style, although they were clearly influenced by the first generation of the Chevrolet Camaro. After moving to E-body platform, which featured a larger engine bay than the previous A-body Chrysler famous 426 in (7.0L) Hemi would now be available from the factory in the Cuda. "

'69 Hemi Cuda fastback-Tom Hunsaker's

No big changes for 1971 Barracuda: just a new grille and taillights. This would be the only year the Barracuda That would have four headlights, and also the only year of the optional fender "gills". In 1971 Barracuda engine options would remain the same as that of 70 years, except that now you could not ask for a 440-4bbl in his' Cuda.

1972 Plymouth Barracuda

In 1972, the Barracuda would keep the same general appearance of the ITS until 1974, with dual headlights and four circular lamps. But like other pony cars of the time, the great These Years showed a decrease in the Barracuda's power due to stricter emissions laws. The largest engine available in 1972 was the 340 4bbl, 360 was available in 1974. New rules also security force vehicle in front to have great guards and rear bumper in 1973 and 1974.

1972 Plymouth Barracuda

The Barracuda hanging until 1974, after he was stopped in the middle of the oil crisis of 1973. Production ended 10 years (one day) after it started. Although today they are sought after collector cars, the third generation was a market failure and never successfully competed with rival offerings from Ford and General Motors. The rarity of specific models and combinations today is primarily the result of low interest rates to the original purchaser and production.

2011 Ducati Multistrada 1200S Sport Specs, News, and Review

2011 Ducati Multistrada 1200S Sport
2011 Ducati Multistrada 1200S Sport ... The Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system is an electronic interface between the twistgrip and the engine which decides the ideal power response depending on the riding mode selected and according to the riders throttle input. The twistgrip no longer has a throttle cable connected directly to the throttle body butterflies, but instead delivers a signal to a control unit, which in turn operates the butterfly opening. The RbW system uses three different mappings to regulate the power delivery. The three maps offer 150hp with a sports-type delivery, 150hp with a progressive delivery suitable for touring and 100hp with progressive delivery for city or off-road use.
Ducati Traction Control

The racing-derived Ducati Traction Control (DTC) is a highly intelligent system which acts as a filter between the riders right hand and the rear tyre. Within milliseconds, DTC is able to detect and then control rear wheel-spin, considerably increasing the bikes active safety and performance. The system offers eight levels of sensitivity, each programmed with a level of rear wheel-spin tolerance in line with progressive levels of riding skills classified from one to eight. Level one is programmed to offer the least amount of interaction while level eight uses the most amount of interaction. DTC is an integral part of the pre-programmed riding modes on the Multistrada 1200.
The system uses front and rear wheel sensors to compare speed differential and sense when rear traction is being broken (wheel-spin). DTC then decides the best combination of two different types of instant electronic adjustment, calculated with data supplied from multiple sources. The first 'soft' stage of system interaction is executed by high speed software that makes instant electronic adjustment to the ignition timing, administering varying amounts of ignition retardation to reduce the engine's torque.
If the DTC software detects that the first 'soft' stage of system interaction is inadequate to control the wheel-spin, it continues to administer ignition retardation and, in addition, instructs the engine ECU to initiate a pattern of constantly increasing injection cuts until, if necessary, full injection cut. Red lights around the circular riding mode section of the instrumentation illuminate to indicate the interaction of the DTC system. As soon as the system recognises the gradual return of equal wheel speeds, it incrementally re-establishes normal power delivery. This seamless interaction is key to the super-smooth operation of the system.
The real innovative thinking behind the DTC system is how the various range of sensitivity levels decide precisely how to react to excessive wheel-spin by understanding the bike's exact 'dynamic situation'. From slow mid-corner acceleration with considerable vehicle inclination to high speed corner exits while almost upright, this 'system intelligence' is achieved by processing a mass of data in a matter of milliseconds.
DTC levels are factory pre-set in each of the four riding modes, but can be individually customised and saved to suit the rider by accessing the set-up menu within each riding mode. A Default option is available to easily return all settings to factory pre-sets.
Ducati Electronic Suspension by hlins
The S version of the Multistrada 1200 is equipped with the latest generation 48mm hlins forks featuring the innovative Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES). The new fork technology enables rebound and compression damping adjustments electronically controlled via the instrument panel. The top of the range hlins TTX rear monoshock is also adjusted electronically in both spring pre-load and rebound and compression damping.
The electronic suspension adjustment can be made easily by using the pre-set riding modes, which have been developed by Ducati test riders, or independent mode, which allows riders to use their own personal settings. Adjustments made electronically send a signal that initiates electronic actuators mounted on the suspension units.
In addition to the riding modes of Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro, there is also an option to quickly change the suspension setting to suit rider only, rider with luggage, rider and passenger or rider and passenger with luggage.
Hands-free ignition
The Multistrada 1200 ignition is not actuated with a normal key. Instead, an electronic key in the riders pocket communicates with the Multistrada when within a distance of approximately 2 metres (6.5ft), recognising the dedicated key code and automatically enabling the bikes systems. Pressing the key-on switch then activates all systems to on and the engine is ready to be started.
The electronic key, which internally consists of a radio circuit, externally doubles as a mechanical flip-key, required to open the seat and fuel tank cap. When parking the motorcycle an electronic locking device can be actuated on the steering simply by applying full steering-lock and pressing the ignition-off button a second time.
Instrumentation
The instrumentation has a large, high visibility LCD showing all main data and a dot-matrix circular LCD which displays the riding modes, additional data or set-up menus depending on whether the bike is stationary or moving.
The main LCD displays data for speed, rpm, gear, total mileage, trip1/trip2, engine coolant temperature, fuel level and time. When the motorcycle is in motion, the dot-matrix LCD displays the selected riding mode, remaining fuel/distance, current fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, average speed, air temperature, trip time, and freezing conditions alarm. When stationary, it enters a setting menu from where adjustments to the various functions can be made including personalised DTC set-up and, on the S version, suspension settings.
The Sport, Touring, Urban or Enduro riding modes can be changed while either stationary or in motion, as well as load settings for rider only, rider with luggage, rider and passenger or rider and passenger with luggage.

Engine
Testastretta 11: The ideal travelling companion
The heart of the highly complex and innovative Multistrada 1200 project is the engine and, as a prestigious model, the motorcycle had to be powered by the most advanced, evolved twin-cylinder engine to come out of the Ducati factory. The Testastretta Evoluzione engine that powered the world-beating 1198.
The challenge, however, was to produce an engine that would be enjoyable to use in all conditions and able to adapt to the riders character and not the other way around. Making the best ever L-Twin performance engine smoother and more user-friendly was a challenge, but Ducatis innovative designers and engineers met the challenge by designing the revolutionary Testastretta 11 engine. Their achievement succeeded in harnessing the immense power of the Superbike engine, making it smooth and adaptable to suit to any occasion, a significant step forward in balancing performance with usability.
Why 11?
For a motorcycle intended for touring, the smoothness and user-friendliness of the engine is key to achieving an effortless and comfortable ride and the main engine characteristic that enabled this configuration was the revision of the valve overlap angle.
The overlap angle is defined as the interval of crankshaft rotation, measured in degrees, during which both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. This overlap occurs between the end of the exhaust stroke and the start of the intake stroke. High performance engines, which are subject to compromising smoothness for extreme power delivery, use high values of this parameter in order to benefit from the pressure waves to improve engine performance by maximising volumetric efficiency.
On the Testastretta 11 engine, this angle has been reduced from 41, used in the Testastretta Evoluzione engine which powers the 1198, to just 11. As a result, the fresh inlet charge flow is less compromised by the exiting exhaust gases, resulting in a much smoother combustion in addition to improved fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions. Unburnt hydrocarbon emissions (pre-catalyser) are reduced by up to 65% and specific fuel consumption (and consequent CO2 emissions) by up to 12% (Euro3).
With its 150hp and 12.1kgm (87.5lb-ft) of torque, the Testastretta 11 sets a new standard for Ducati twincylinder engines. Fluid dynamics testing on ports and combustion chambers has resulted in a modified power delivery profile, specifically the torque. New intake and exhaust ports combined with a radical adjustment of the cam timing and slight reduction of the compression ratio have enabled Ducati to achieve a favourable torque curve at low rpm, which remains strong through a wide range. This particular characteristic considerably enhances the Multistrada 1200s effortless ridability.
The gearbox and final drive ratios have also been optimised to enable reduced fuel consumption and achieve increased riding comfort by reducing vibration. If the 1198 Superbike reaches its top speed in 6th gear, the Multistrada 1200 is able to reach it in 5th gear and maintain it effortlessly in 6th.
The Multistrada 1200 features an oil bath clutch with slipper function and super-light feel at the lever. Its design uses a progressive self-servo mechanism that presses the plates together when under drive from the engine, enabling the reduction of the clutch spring rates. This results in a much lighter clutch lever at the handlebar, ideal in stop-start traffic or long journeys. When the drive force is reversed (over-run), the same mechanism reduces the pressure on the clutch plates, enabling them to provide a race-like slipper action, which reduces the destabilizing effect of the rear-end under aggressive down-shifting and provides a much smoother feeling when closing the throttle or down-shifting under normal riding conditions.
The layout for the exhaust system, which is simple and minimalistic, uses two primary manifolds flowing directly into the triple chamber single silencer. Apart from carrying out the 2-1-2 compensator function, the silencer also contains the catalyser and sound-absorbent materials. The two compact and lightweight aluminium alloy end pipes depart in a low, lateral configuration to keep the overall weight to a minimum.
More strada between major services
Constant investment in quality by design, advanced materials and engineering techniques, has enabled the distance between major service intervals (valve clearance check) to be doubled to a highly competitive 24,000km (15,000 miles). This has been achieved partly by the introduction of a new valve seat material and partly by the improved combustion efficiency and temperature management designed into the Testastretta 11 engine.

VW Concept XL1 (2011)

Future of mobility is one of the most interesting of our time. The key question: How can the energy consumption of cars will be reduced if all stops were removed to be effective? There is now an answer to this question, and Volkswagen is delivered in the form of the new Concept Volkswagen XL1. Combined consumption: 0.9 l/100 km. No other hybrid car powered by an electric motor / combustion engine the most efficient mix of fuel. The prototype made its world debut at the Salon in 2011 in Qatar Motor (26 to 29 January 2011).

Conceptually, the XL1 Volkswagen is the third step in the evolution of Volkswagen's strategy in a liter. When opened the new millennium, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Piech, now chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG, made the visionary goal of marketing a production car that was practical for everyday use with a consumption of 1.0 liters fuel per 100 km. The new XL1, Volkswagen demonstrates that this goal is within reach.
New Volkswagen XL1 to achieve CO2 emission value of 24 g / km, thanks to a combination of lightweight construction (self-supporting, and add-on components made of carbon fiber), very low coefficient of drag (Cd 0186), and a plug-in hybrid system - consisting of two-cylinder TDI (35 kW / 48 hp) electric motor (20 kW/27 hp), 7-speed dualclutch (DSG) and lithium-ion battery. Results: The fuel consumption of 0.9 liters per 100 kilometers, the new Volkswagen XL1 allows only 24 g / km of CO2. Because it is designed for plug-in hybrid prototype XL1 can run up to 35 kilometers of pure electric mode, ie do not cause emissions in use. The battery can be recharged by conventional electrical outlet at home. Of course, the reform of the battery is also recruited to recover energy while slowing down, and save as much as possible to the battery for reuse. In this case, the electric motor acts as generator.

Despite the high levels of efficiency, developers were able to design a development organization that provides more daily, with side by side seats instead of the tandem arrangement is seen in the first two 1-liter Car made in 2002 and L1 presented in 2009. The new Volkswagen XL1 produces wing doors make it easier to enter and exit the car. Further progress is made by body parts carbon fiber reinforced polymer pieces (CFRP), a technique used in the automotive Formula 1. Once again, Volkswagen has managed to achieve significant reductions in production costs - an important step to return a limited production run XL1. Background: collaboration with suppliers, Volkswagen has developed and patented a new system for the production of carbon fiber in this process is known as ARTM (Advanced Resin Transfer Moulding).

Plug-in hybrid concept

With the new XL1 Volkswagen is implementing a concept plug-in hybrids are more fuel-efficient technologies in the common rail turbodiesel engine (TDI) and dual-clutch transmission (DSG). TDI produces its maximum effect at 35 kW/48 hp 0.8-liter engine only. The set is housed hybrid above the rear axle car driving. The real hybrid module with an electric motor and the clutch is placed between TDI and 7-speed DSG, this module is integrated into the DSG gearbox, instead of the usual wheel. The lithium-ion battery provides E-motor with energy. The flow of energy at high voltage and the battery or the E-motor controlled by power electronics that operate at 220 volts. Volkswagen XL1 body electrical system is supplied with the necessary 12 volts via a DC / DC converter.

E-motor Interaction and TDI: The electric motor is accelerating TDI (stimulant), but as described can also feed the XL1 concept itself for a distance of 35 km. In this mode, the TDI is decoupled from the driveline to disengage the clutch, and closes. Meanwhile, the clutch on the side of the gearbox is kept closed, so the DSG is fully committed to the electric motor. Important: The driver can choose to drive the Volkswagen XL1 in pure electric mode (if the battery is charged). Once the mode button on the electrical panel is pressed, the car is powered solely by electricity. Restarting the IDA is a very soft and comfortable: In what is known as "pulse start" while driving TDI engine, the rotor of the electric motor accelerates, and is coupled to the clutch motor. This speeds up the TDI at the required speed and starts.

The entire process takes place without any shocks, so that the driver hardly notices the TDI engine restart.

When the XL1 is braked, the electric motor acts as a generator that uses the energy of braking to recharge the battery (renewal). In certain operating conditions, the load is divided in the TDI engine and an electric motor can be moved so that the diesel has the lowest efficiency. Fishing gear is automatically transferred to 7-speed DSG is also always be chosen to minimize power consumption. The motor controller regulates the flow of all energy and disk management tasks, taking into account the power demand at any time by the pilot. Some of the parameters used to implement the state power to provide optimal conditions are: accelerator pedal position and engine load as well as energy supply and mix of commercial energy and electricity at any given time.

The two-cylinder TDI used in the mass production of technology: 0.8-liter TDI (35 kW/48 hp) came from the 1.6-liter TDI, which is to drive cars like the Golf and Passat. 0.8 TDI has the same information as the 1.6-liter TDI common-rail distance between the cylinders (88 mm) diameter cylinder (79.5 mm) and stroke (80.5 mm). In addition, the concept of a twin-cylinder Volkswagen XL1 and mass-produced four-cylinder engine uses an internal action to reduce emissions. They are particularly piston recesses multiple injections and single injection in the direction of individual projects. Excellent, good engines, common-rail operation was moved to a two-cylinder engine. In addition to the balance within the room that controls the speed of rotation of the engine, while optimizing the engine is running smooth.

Meanwhile, the aluminum of the TDI was built for rigidity and accuracy, which in turn leads to very low friction loss. With the aim of reducing emissions, recycling of exhaust gases and an oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter is used. Equipped in this way, the 0.8 TDI already complies with the limits of the Euro-6 emissions standard.

Designed for the efficiency of the cooling system of the car. Control only by activating the TDI engine externally cooled electric pump when the engine operating conditions so require. This includes the cooling system is automatically controlled air intake system for the front of the cooling system of the vehicle to reduce drag. This thermal management strategy will also help reduce fuel consumption. Another electric water pump, which is used only when necessary, around the bottom loop to cool the temperature of the coolant starter generator and power electronics.

CFRP body is a technical masterpiece

The development team made extraordinary progress in the design of the CFRP body - in the form of its lightweight construction and aerodynamics. A comparison with the Gulf illustrates how innovative body concept for the new XL1 is.

The drag coefficient of the Gulf of success is very good for the compact segment: CD (0312) x (2.22 m2 frontal area) is equal to a total of 0693 m2 trawl (Cd.A) offer this references benchmark car in its class aerodynamics. Meanwhile, Volkswagen XL1 overcomes this performance with a 0186 value of CD and frontal area of ??1.50 m2. The product of these two parameters gives a total drag, or the value of 0277 m2 Cd.A which is 2.5 times less than the Golf.

Designing a new era is 3888 VW XL1 mm long, 1665 mm wide and only 1,156 mm high. These are extreme dimensions. The Polo has a similar length (3970 mm) and width (1682 m), but it is much higher (1462 mm). The height of the new XL1 is approximately the same as a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder (1184 mm). So it is easy to see how such a wonderful Volkswagen seems on the road - long and wide as a polo, but with a lower profile than a Lamborghini.

The wing doors for the new Volkswagen XL1 is also reminiscent of a sports car luxury. They consist of two points: making the A-pillars and windshield just above the roof structure, not just appear, but slightly forward as well. The doors also extends far into the roof. Once opened, they release an abnormally high amount of input and output space.

Visually, the new XL1 also adopts a style of lines L1 introduced in 2009, but the new prototype has a more dynamic, thanks to its greater width. The design of the whole body was subjected to uncompromising laws of aerodynamics. Opposite, with VW XL1 concept of the greater width of the car, then shrinks back. Seen from above, resembles the type of XL1, a dolphin, especially at the back where the lines optimally in accordance with the airflow over the vehicle body to reduce the air resistance of Volkswagen.
In side profile, reflecting the style of roof lines that trace an arc of a pillar back to the rear. The rear wheels are fully covered to avoid air turbulence, air flows here are optimized for small spoilers front and rear wheels. Observers will look for Mirror vain; replace the wing doors are small cameras that take on the role of mirrors that transmit digital images of the environment behind the car for two screens inside the vehicle.

The front of the new Volkswagen Concept XL1 does not exhibit the typical radiator grille, but reflects the current style of 'design DNA' Volkswagen, of which most of the horizontal line. In particular, a black cross-track (an area where no grid), which combines energy-efficient dual-LED lights form a continuous band. The air intake for cooling the actual design of the TDI engine, battery and interior is in the lower front section and an electronic control of the Louvre. Sideindicators Strait is also designed for LED technology, these are the bow "L" shaped wheel vertical and the horizontal line under the headlights. This will create a front-end, which - although it has been completely renovated, and its extreme dimensions - can be immediately recognized in the design of Volkswagen's clean lines.

2011 Volkswagen GTI

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Volkswagen GTI
Mark Twain famously wrote, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics." Judged on statistics and track numbers alone, the 2011 Volkswagen GTI would be one of the least desirable of the currently available sport hatchbacks. But that's a lie. In reality, the GTI is a front runner among the competition.
Sure, the 2011 Volkswagen GTI isn't as quick to reach 60 mph as the competition, nor can it weave through the slalom or cling to a skid pad as tenaciously. How then, you ask, can the GTI rank so highly in such a sport-oriented segment? The answer is two-fold: refinement and drivability.
The VW GTI's interior is quite simply, the best in its class. It's so nice, in fact, that it could be mistaken for a cabin from sister company Audi, save for the plaid fabric seats. (About those private school uniform-patterned coverings -- it's a nod to the original GTI from more than three decades ago.) The GTI also boasts surprising amounts of rear legroom and useful cargo space considering its compact overall size.
Drivability is the other main advantage the 2011 Volkswagen GTI has over other sport hatches. Output from the 2.0-liter turbo engine is smooth and linear, and that power is more manageable in the real world than that of more feisty rivals. Competitors like the Mazdaspeed 3 and Mini Cooper S suffer from torque steer -- the sensation of the steering wheel tugging in your hands under hard acceleration -- that many drivers find distracting.
In addition to the Mazda and Mini, other performance hatchbacks to consider include the all-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart and Subaru Impreza WRX. Certainly, there's a lot to like about all of these cars. But if you're like Mark Twain and don't blindly go by the numbers, you'll find the 2011 GTI an ideal pick -- the sum of its parts can't be quantified with statistics alone.
 INTERIOR
The GTI cabin is businesslike without being austere, a place the driver can appreciate and passengers will find quite accommodating. It's nicely trimmed and well-assembled, the level of fit and finish better than you might expect for the price knowing money also got spent on the engineering. You might argue the instruments and switches benefit from Audi influence, or the other way round since VW owns Audi.
Heated sport seats are standard up front with a fair range of adjustment, long cushions for long-legged support, excellent bolstering that contains you without restricting movement or entry and exit, and comfort for all-day drives. Leather is available yet we find the standard cloth better breathing and a bit less slippery if you're of slender build.
The rear seats are designed for three-across seating, but as usual this is better for slim adults or children; more bolstering might be beneficial for some passengers but would compromise flexibility. There are three adjustable headrests, reading lights, cupholders, and storage bins, but the side windows open only on four-door models (the seats and space are the same). It may not be a long car but it is roomy; we put four 6-plus-footers in a moonroof model with no complaints thanks to the hatchback roofline.
Both front seats slide forward for entry/exit and with big side doors make the two-door a realistic proposition. With the narrow part of the split-folding rear seat behind the driver, a tall driver with the seat well back can still carry longer loads and two rear passengers, or one passenger in back and really long things over a reclined front seat.
A tilt and telescoping column with a flat-bottom, heavily contoured steering wheel, a good dead pedal and nearby brake and shifter allow anyone from 5-foot to 6-foot, 5 inches to find a comfortable driving position. Any option pack adds controls to both wheel spokes and automatics have shift buttons behind, so it's rare to need to remove a hand from the wheel.
Gauges are basic white-on-black analog with large engine and road speed, and 270-degree sweep fuel and temperature inside them. A central display handles trip computer and radio data, exterior temperature, door-open warnings and so forth. The audio and navigation systems are new for 2011, MP3/iPod compatible, most touch-screen and Bluetooth controls are roof mounted. Climate control is three-ring simple and unlike many cars each of the center vents can be closed independent of the other.
Storage is reasonably good. The sides of the bin ahead of the shifter double as places to brace a knee, door pockets have good space and bottle holder contours, but the center-console under-armrest room is good for little more than a smartphone and pack of smokes.
Outward visibility is very good. Outside mirrors are low and the inside high enough that neither blocks any vision even on climbing switchbacks. The bottom of the windshield is unobstructed the full width of the dash and the top is high for an excellent view forward, and the rear pillars are so far away they don't compromise quarter views.
Behind the seats there is 15 cubic feet of trunk space; a bit less below the cargo cover. Folding the rear seats expands that to more than 40 cubic feet bettering some SUVs. The cargo area also has tie-down loops, grocery bag hooks, three baby-seat tethers, a multitude of cubby holes underneath and a surprise below: the spare tire and wheel are identical to the other four so you avoid temporary-spare or run-flat speed limits and wondering where the flat tire will go.
EXTERIOR
The GTI is based on the VW Golf, and both received a new exterior last year that made them more angular and menacing. The GTI has some unique features, including a thin, blackened honeycomb grille with two red outlining stripes; different front and rear bumpers; side skirts; and GTI badging. It also rides slightly lower than the Golf. Exterior features include:
  • Standard 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Dual tailpipes
  • Optional xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights

 ENGINE

The front-wheel-drive 2011Volkswagen GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual (called DSG) is optional. The DSG transmission can be shifted manually via the shift lever or paddles on the steering wheel, or it can operate as a standard automatic.
In testing, the GTI accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, which is slower than the competition by at least half a second. It is also on the pokey side in terms of handling, turning in a 67-mph run through the slalom and pulling 0.84g on the skid pad.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 24/32 mpg city/highway for DSG-equipped models and 27 mpg in combined driving. The manual transmission achieves slightly less, at 21/31/25 mpg.
 SAFETY
Standard safety equipment for the 2011 Volkswagen GTI includes antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Last year's optional rear-seat side airbags for the four-door have been discontinued.
In government crash testing, the GTI sedan earned four out of five stars for frontal crash protection of the driver and front passenger and five stars for side impact driver protection. In performance testing, braking from 60 to zero mph required 129 feet, which is a full car length longer than the Mazdaspeed 3's impressively short 115-foot halt.

2011 Yamaha VMAX (VMX17) Specs, News, and Review

2011 Yamaha VMAX (VMX17)
The 2011 Yamaha VMAX (VMX17) is the ultimate muscle bike and is the awesome result of its evolutionary journey. The unique features of this iconic beast are richly blended with advanced sportbike tehcnology and forward-thinking style. It all adds up to a machine with immense performance and visual power. There's only one V-Max.
Liquid-cooled, 1,679cc, DOHC, 16-valve, 65, V-4 engine has no equal in its class. The compact engine design has allowed the engineers to place the engine in the "sweet spot" of the frame to optimize handling. DOHC 4-valve "pent roof" cylinder head design provides optimum breathing efficiency for incredible engine performance. Valve actuation is via under bucket shims. Compression ratio is 11.3:1.

Steel valves are used for excellent durability. Intake valves are 34mm in diameter with a 14-degree valve angle while exhaust valves are 30mm with a 15 degree valve angle. "Combination" chain and gear camshaft drive system is utilized. With this system, only the intake cams are driven by a chain (attached to the crank), the exhaust cams are driven by a gear drive off the intake cams. This design allows for more compact cylinder heads since the distance or "pitch" between the camshafts is reduced. High-performance camshafts provide incredible engine performance. Centrifugal decompression device on the exhaust cam means fast, easy starting.
Automatic hydraulic cam chain tensioners reduce engine mechanical noise.
Lightweight, forged, aluminium short skirt pistons help provide fast throttle response, reduced vibration and provide excellent durability. Connecting rods are carburized and use a nut less design. The lower end "cap" of the rod is made from the same piece of material as the upper portion; this design is known as "fracture splitting". This design aids in establishing true big end roundness, greater precision in con rod dimensions and are extremely durable.
180-degree crankshaft design is utilized.
Gear-driven engine counter balancer shaft is used to reduce vibration and maximize rider comfort. The balance ratio is 50% to allow some pulse feel. Since the crank design is 180 degrees, there is also some inherent natural balancing effect as well. Twin radiator design features a curved upper rad and lower flat rad for maximum cooling efficiency. Each rad has its own cooling fan. An oil-to-coolant heat exchanger type oil cooler maintains stable lubricant temperatures for increased performance and extended engine life.
Wet sump oil lubrication system is used and features a spin-on cartridge-type oil filter.
Mikuni fuel injection system uses four 48mm throttle bodies fitted with T.P.S. (Throttle Position Sensor) and numerous other sensors. An oxygen sensor has been fitted into the exhaust making this a "closed loop" type FI system. The benefits include excellent throttle response, great fuel economy, reduced emissions, stable idling and no choke to fuss with during start up. The closed loop design means the system is constantly monitoring the fuel / air mixture and adjusting it as required for maximum performance plus reduced emissions.
Denso 12-hole injectors are used for excellent fuel atomization for maximum power and response across the entire rev range.
The Yamaha VMAX utilizes a lightweight main Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that in fact consists of 3 - ECUs in total. The main 32-bit ECU controls the ignition and fuel injection process, while a 2nd and 3rd integral ECU controls the YCC-T & YCC-I. This "combined" ECU design reduces weight.
YCC-I or Yamaha's Chip Controlled Intake means the intake funnels / stacks vary in length (between 2 positions) depending on engine rpm. An electronic servo motor varies the funnel length from 150mm (for low to mid rpms) to the short setting of 54mm for high rpm. The transition or switching rpm between the 2 lengths is 6,650 rpms. The revolutionary YCC-I provides the best of both worlds, solid low rpm torque and power combined with an amazing high rpm rush. It takes only 0.3 of a second for the funnels to move from the tall to the short position.
Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) electronically controls the throttle valves for outstanding response and improved controllability at all rpms. This system features twin Throttle Position Sensors (TPS) and a D.C. motor driving the throttle valves. The YCC-T is used to provide even more control of the intake air volume for smoother torque character. The rider can "mechanically close" the throttles by simply closing the throttle twist grip.
Large capacity air box uses a viscous-type paper air filter.
Air Induction System (AIS) injects fresh air into the exhaust port area to fully combust any un-burnt fuel, reducing harmful HC and CO emissions for a cleaner environment. 4-into-1-into-2 into-4 exhaust system is used. Not only does it make a serious styling statement but also provides excellent performance and reduced emissions thanks to a 3-way honeycomb catalytic converter in the under engine "muffler box". It also features Yamaha's patented Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve (EXUP). This system monitors engine rpm and adjusts exhaust flow (via the EXUP valve) for maximum performance at all rpms with no "flat spots". This system helps to improve torque, optimize fuel economy and reduce emissions too.
Crankcase design incorporates the cylinders into the upper half of the cases for reduced weight. Ceramic composite cylinder "bores" are a "liner-less" design with the ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminium block to ensure great heat dissipation for consistent power delivery, reduced friction and reduced weight.
Open deck type cylinder sleeves are used for maximum cooling efficiency.
Lightweight magnesium alloy crankcase covers are used.
Hydraulically activated, ramp-type slipper clutch featuring 10 friction plates is used to deliver consistent clutch performance with a light lever pull and minimal maintenance. A slipper or back limiter clutch assembly reduces rear wheel hop when making hard downshifts or under hard braking. The clutch master cylinder is a Nissin design using a 14mm piston. The clutch lever offers 4 positions of adjustability.
5-speed transmission features optimized gear ratios for maximum acceleration and performance. 5th gear is an overdrive gear to reduce engine rpm at highway speeds for a comfortable ride. Clean, quiet, smooth low-maintenance shaft drive is used. This system features dual "U" joints to accommodate the extra wide rear tire.
Compact rear shaft drive gear case assembly reduces weight and improves styling.
Functional hand finished aluminium intake covers highlight Yamaha's quality and attention to detail. ACM magneto produces 420 watts of power at 5,000 rpms. High-performance direct ignition coils (ignition coil is built into the spark plug cap) reduce weight while iridium spark plugs and high-output magneto deliver increased spark energy.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION
Lightweight cast aluminium frame has been designed to offer an optimized rigidity balance to maximize handling performance. This frame is very rigid or stiff at the head pipe, engine mounts and swingarm pivot point. In other areas, material is less rigid in order to allow for "tuned flex".
Extra-long, lightweight cast aluminium swingarm provides great torsional rigidity for excellent handling and manoeuvrability. The distance between the swingarm pivot and the rear axle has been optimized (662.5mm) for great rear wheel traction. Threaded holes for racing type rear stand are provided. Detachable C.F. die cast aluminium and extruded aluminium rear sub frame means easier maintenance access (and a less costly repair if the unit is "looped out").
Huge fully adjustable, conventional cartridge-type 52mm front fork features 120mm (4.7") of road-smoothing wheel travel. The inner tubes feature a oxide titanium coating to reduce friction and wear. The adjustable design allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider's weight and road conditions to maximize handling and suspension performance. There is 5-way spring preload adjustability plus 20-way compression damping and 17-way rebound damping adjustability.
Lightweight triple clamps. The upper is made of cast aluminium while the lower clamp is forged aluminium. Fork pitch is 225mm while offset is 30mm. Link Monocross rear suspension utilizes a fully adjustable remote reservoir rear shock. Rear wheel travel is 110mm (4.3"). Adjustments include 11 way spring preload adjustability (via easy-access remote adjuster), 12-way compression damping and 18-way rebound damping adjustability.
15-litre fluorinated polyethylene fuel tank is mounted below the rider's seat and therefore helps maintain a low centre of gravity plus mass centralization. It also provides space for the large capacity air box. The fluorination treatment reduces the "permeation" of fuel vapours (hydrocarbons) into the atmosphere. The electric fuel pump is housed inside the tank. The low fuel warning light will illuminate with approx. 4.2 litres of fuel remaining.
Dual floating 320mm wave-style front rotors are squeezed by radial mount, monoblock 6-piston calipers. The result is incredible braking performance with excellent control and lever feedback. The master cylinder is a Brembo radial pump master cylinder with a 16mm piston, a direct GP race innovation. The lever is adjustable for various hand sizes.
298mm wave-style rear disc is squeezed by a single-piston slide-type caliper utilizing sintered metal pads and a 14mm Brembo master. The caliper is mounted below the swingram to maintain a handling enhancing low centre of gravity.
Anti-lock braking system features Yamaha's latest ABS system, very similar to that found on the FJR1300. The linear controlled 3-position ABS system features an ECU with an integrated compact hydraulic unit built into the ECU plus active type wheel sensors with magnetic rotors. The benefit is reduced weight, excellent mass centralization and better lever feedback feeling when the system is operating. The main benefit of ABS is excellent control under hard braking or braking on wet or slippery surfaces since the ABS system helps to prevents wheel lock-up.
Rugged yet lightweight cast aluminium 5-spoke mag wheels front and rear. The wheels utilize hollow "spokes" to reduce unsprung weight for superior handling. Front rim size is a 3.50 x 18 fitted with a tubeless 120/70R18 radial tire, while the rear is 6.00 x 18 fitted with a wide tubeless 200/50R18 radial tire.
Conventional tapered 1?" diameter low rise handlebar.
Cool multi-function handlebar mounted meter includes analog tachometer and digital speedo plus an adjustable shift light and a variety of warning lights. A second multi-function display panel is located on top of the "fuel tank" (actually it is the air box cover). Readouts on this panel include fuel gauge, fuel consumption display, odometer, dual tripmeters, clock, coolant temp, gear indicator, throttle valve opening, intake air temp, stop watch and fuel reserve tripmeter. This panel uses a highly visible 256 x 64 dot matrix "Organic Electro Luminescence display". Brightness is adjustable.
Bright, H4 60/55-watt, halogen headlight
Eye-catching LED tail light means it uses less electrical power.
